Fantasy Football 2K6

It is Fantasy Football time again. Our draft happened this evening, and I was lucky enough (NOT!) to draft 12th with back to back picks. Only time will tell how well my picks worked out. I always seem to draft a team with potential, and I always seem to end up with a .500 team.

More updates to come as I see fit.

Well, there's lots I could say....so I better get to it! For starters, this season is the first one where the proverbial 'question marks' are rampant across all positions and nearly all teams. There are QBs coming off major injuries, an inordinate amount of teams with RBBC (Running Back By Committee) - DEN, NYJ, HOU, etc., new coaches and depleted personnel in some places. There really were only a few safe bets across the board. That means that no one could build a team that looks good top to bottom, by any critical analysis.

Uncle Smashmouth has a few holes, I think (just like the rest of our teams). First, only 3 RBs? And all three have potential issues. Jamal is not his old self, and last year pundits felt he'd have a comeback kind of year, which he didn't. Corey Dillon is on the wrong side of 30, but still can be consistent, but his downward slide is documented. Cadillac (who I had last year as a RB3) was probably overused and got injured halfway through. Still, these guys I like better than other teams RB corps.

Speaking of corpse, I hope your QBs don't end up being one. Bledsoe will probably do great, but there's still concern for Duante (Madden notwithstanding). Hopefully the DAL line will protect Drew to where he doesn't get hurt.

Your strength is your WR group, anchored by Fitzgerald, who I was targeting btw. Everyone else you have looks to have solid years ahead of them - Wayne, Toomer, Wilford, Bennett... Surely they'll be trade fodder for you later in the season. (Rod Smith for Larry Fitzgerald - whenever you're ready.)

Both of us play TFS and TXT twice, and each other only once so your schedule looks ok. You have no bye week issues, and your team distribution is good, with no more than 2 players from any one team. (I would have liked him, but that reason kept me from taking MIA TE McMichael.) USM has good potential, but you may suffer from "which WRs do I start" syndrome. I know my lineup has just as many questions at certain positions.

well, to elaborate, i am not a dillon fan, but he is consistent; williams hasn't seen much pre season playing time, but gruden is confident and so am i, and lewis is in a contract year and he has something to prove as long as his hip doesn't give out (plus, with a QB threat now, the lanes should be open to run). in addition, RB's get hurt every year, and others step up, and i am usually getting those players.

i have bledsoe and culpepper because YOU picked up warner. the two TE sets for DAL will be extra protection, and culpepper will have targets to throw to like he did in MIN as long as he is protected. saban did wonders with the team last year and they didn't have a QB of culpepper's caliber.

fitzgerald was my main WR target, and i expect wayne to have a 2004 year again this year. bennett and wilford are fine for me, but i am not high on toomer (you said rod smith for toomer, right?)

clark and davis as my TE's will be fine, manning will be throwing alot and smith needs the safety valve.

i always look back at the draft at some point after the season is done and wonder why i didn't pick this player or that player when i had the chance, and i am sure that this year will be no different.

BTW - good to be able to leave comments. You've no doubt read my post at my site and seen my commentary on my picks. There's plenty there for me to criticize as well. My QBs are hardly stone cold locks to perform high. My "What Were You Thinking" moment is for selecting Ahman Green. Jackson and Jordan are hardly elite point producers.

Look at it this way. We each have the WR that the other person's QB will be throwing to. We better hope those guys do well. I only chose him because David and Russell took the two guys I was targeting in consecutive picks right before I was going to.

And I'm betting that Toomer will do better than he did last year. He picked things up toward the end of the season and looks to be more comfortable with Eli.

I forgot Jamal was in a contract year. You're right that that will motivate him, and a better QB will help. I just know about Caddy that down the stretch last year I couldn't count on him. Hope he does better for you on that count.

I like your choice of WRs. Thankfully we only have to play each other once this time around. And for the first time, I don't have to play Drew twice.
