Partly Bloggy

Things have been going on, so I figured this would be a good time for a stickup, um, I mean, an update.

My new boss here at work is pretty cool and easy to get along with, which is nice. He is now a former rigger at the Opryland Hotel, and seems to be making the adjustment to the "cush life" here at the Vandy.

After going 0-for in wins during most of this softball season, we have split the doubleheaders the last two weeks, winning each game by one run. Two weeks ago, it was final inning clutch hitting, and last night it was final inning clutch defense. I am *very* sore today, and the OTC pain meds aren't really helping.

This past weekend, I was in Memphis at a wedding, where the final single son of the Davis clan finally got hitched (the last of 6 boys). It was at Bellevue Baptist Church. Seats 14,000. Very big place. Oh, and don't be fooled. The wedding was in a chapel off the main worship center. Nice day to drive, and it was great getting to see and talk with all of the other brothers again since most of them are spread out across the eastern half of the US.

I am really distraught about this next bit of news. There has been much speculation about the future of the Nashville Predators hockey team with both the impending sale of the team and the re-signing of current players that would be UFA's on July 1. Both Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell have been traded to Philadelphia for a first round draft pick in this year's entry draft. While I understand that on some levels it is a business and monetary decision where the player is concerned, the fact that (according to the local bird cage liner) the Predators current management made no effort to resign these two players at all makes me really sad.

I am certainly glad that Kimmo and Harts are getting the money they deserve, but I think I would have signed them and let everyone else go. We definitely should have gotten two draft picks out of the deal instead of one. Maybe I will feel different about this in the fall, but I kind of hope not.
